within all of us, through various art forms.
To share those voices and stories with the public to foster awareness
and dialogue in the community.
Sari Rose Barron, M.S., LMFT
Founder and Director
For the last 13 years, Barron has been dedicated to using arts as a means of expression and was inspired to create VOICES UNHEARD, a company that partners with organizations to run arts programs with populations and under-served areas that deal with oppression.
With a background in musical theatre and criminology from New York University and a practicing Licensed Psychotherapist, Sari creates programs that not only have an arts component but also an element of personal expression and healing. She has worked extensively around the country in low-income communities creating and implementing expressive arts programs through songwriting, drama, movement, and spoken word for at-risk youth and foster youth in facilities like schools, probation camps, and group homes. Areas have included New Orleans, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, Long Beach, and South Central/Compton/Watts.
She is currently the Program Director of Los Angeles for The Johnny Mercer Foundation and implements songwriting programs with LAUSD schools, The Braille Institute, and The Children's Hospital. She also works on a yearly songwriting program with ASCAP and The Pasadena Playhouse. In the past, Sari served as Education Director for Reprise Theatre Company and Musical Theatre West. Sari is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, holds an M.S. in Counseling from CSUF and B.F.A. in Theatre and Criminology from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Currently, she resides in Los Angeles, has a private psychotherapy practice and continues to be dedicated to fostering expression in communities where access to the arts are stifled.
Voices Unheard is currently partnering with The Johnny Mercer Foundation, ASCAP, the Braille Institute, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, various probation camps and The Pasadena Playhouse. In addition, she acts as a volunteer Clinical Director of Los Angeles for A Home Within, an organization that matches psychotherapists with foster youth for free therapy for however long it takes.
